Photo 29 Am. Yogyakarta Sultan Palace, built in grand and elegant Javanese Architectural style, lies in the center of municipality. It was built in 1756 by Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono 1. Continue to Taman sari Water Castle

The main attraction of this tour is Besakih Temple – the biggest temple in Bali. On the way to and from Besakih you will see several places of interest. In Ubud you will visit woodcarving and other handicraft factories and also you can make a photo with monkeys at Ubud Monkey Forest. Kerta Gosa is an ancient building, a good example of Balinese architecture. It used to be a place of court where the king announced the legislation, jurisdiction, penalization etc. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant with the beautiful view to rice terraces and green hills. Besakih Temple, which is called also Mother Temple, is the biggest Hindu temple in Bali. It is located on the south west slope of Mount Agung, the highest and holiest mount in Bali. The temple is about 1000 meters above the sea level. It is an extensive complex of some 23 separate but related temples. Each of the island's nine regencies also maintains its own temple within this complex. Photo 30 Besakih has three main temples, which stretch for over a kilometre. The largest and most important is Pura Penataran Agung (in the symbolic center), dedicated to the paramount god Shiva, or Sanghyang Widhi Wasa. The others two are Pura Kiduling Kreteg, honoring Brahma; and Pura Batu Medog, dedicated to Vishnu. The longitudinal axis of this complex points directly 'Kaja', toward Gunung Agung's peak to the northeast. Farther up the mountain is another compound, Pura Gelap, the "Thunderbolt Temple." Highest, in the pine forests of Agung's southwest slope, is austere Pura Pengabengan. A series of eruptions of Mount Agung in 1963, which killed approximately 1,700 people also threatened Pura Besakih. The lava flows missed the temple complex by mere meters. The saving of the temple is regarded by the Balinese people as miraculous, and a signal from the gods that they wished to demonstrate their power but not destroy the monument the Balinese faithful had erected. Besakih is most enjoyable during one of the frequent festival, when hundreds perhaps thousands, of gorgeously dressed devotees turn up with beautifully arranged offerings. The panoramic view and the mountain backdrop are impressive too.

The temple is located in south western tip of peninsula, up to the blue sea cliff approximately 100 meters high, the best place to view the sunset. In 16 century another Javanese priest Danghyang Nirartha visited this temple and added more buildings. He retreated in this temple for his final life, when he attained Moksa or freedom. There are a lot of monkeys around the temple. Photo 12 Second stop is to see Kecak Dance performance in Uluwatu Temple.
